Our Practices
Zafferano Farm is a small, no-till operation dedicated to ethical and sustainable growing practices. We share our 2.2-acre field with Soul Creations, using organic and veganic methods to cultivate fresh, nutrient-dense produce. By prioritizing soil health, biodiversity, and low-impact farming techniques, we grow without synthetic inputs, ensuring our food is as natural and nourishing as possible. Our mission is to make high-quality, locally grown produce accessible to everyone on Long Island while caring for the land and community. Through thoughtful stewardship, we aim to regenerate the soil, support pollinators, and contribute to a healthier food system for all.
No-Till Farming
Our no-till farming approach prioritizes soil health, biodiversity, and sustainability. After initially opening our fields, we rely on biologically intensive, human-powered methods to manage our permanent raised beds—avoiding the disruption caused by fast-moving metal. This approach reduces dependence on costly machinery, minimizes pollution, and prevents soil erosion. By preserving soil structure and fostering microbial life, we enhance natural pest and disease resistance while improving water retention and drought resilience. Our methods ensure long-term soil vitality and a truly regenerative food system.
Organic Certification (Submitted)
We applied for organic certification in February 2025 to validate our commitment to truly sustainable farming. Using no synthetic fertilizers or sprays, our no-till methods prioritize soil health, biodiversity, and nutrient-dense produce. Certification ensures transparency, builds trust with our community, and reinforces our dedication to ethical, regenerative agriculture.
Veganic Certification (Submitted)
Veganic farming goes beyond organic by eliminating all animal-derived inputs, focusing on plant-based composts and cover crops to build soil health. We applied for veganic certification in February 2025 to formally recognize our commitment to ethical, sustainable, and cruelty-free farming, ensuring the purest produce for our Long Island community.
