Setting up the farm

Hello all! Some quick updates from the farm as we work on figuring out the season over here. The last month has been a whirlwind of getting everything all setup for the season. Started with making a website. Next was to figure out a germination chamber and then setup trays and lights until it is warm enough in the tunnel, we don’t have heat in there and it was still getting too cold at night.

Once the germination chamber was set up, we seeded our red onions (Monastrell and Rossa di Napoli), yellow onions (Patterson and Safrane) and shallots (Conservor and Matador) on March 1st. The tomatoes were seeded on March 3rd. Since then, we have spinach, kale, bok choy, fennel, swiss chard, leeks, turnips, bunching onions and beets going!

About a week ago we had the well pump fixed (WOOHOOO) and ordered automated sides for the tunnel to regulate because we do not live on the farm property. We are 85% of the way done with the roll-up sides and just need to get the finishing touches on.

Currently - working on solidifying our refrigeration and setting up wash pack by next week. This weekend will be our first real bed prep days, where we will setup our permanent bed system that wont be changed again.

Next big hurdle - tweaking the irrigation system to make sure it is all set and then its time to really get going in the field. Spinach and greens will go in first with some pre-sprouted field peas and some other cold loving friends. More updates to come!
